Idle Talk 4 - Princess Telestia and Imperial Guards

「Silk, I had fun this time」

I smiled at Silk who was sitting in front of me in the swaying carriage.

I have lived in the royal castle since I was born. Because I was born as the third princess, I could hardly go shopping in the city.

No matter what I wanted, I couldn't leave the castle and all I could do was look at the city spreading out through the castle windows.

One day I was introduced to Duke Eric-sama's second daughter, she was the same age as me, and from the age of three, we often played in the castle.

Silk's house, which was in the territory of Malbik, was a couple of days away from the royal capital, and like me, she was sad that she couldn't come and play with me every day.

After celebrating my fifth birthday, I asked my father to let me go play at Silk's house. Of course, I was escorted by maids and knights from the Imperial Guards.

I was excited at the view of the city that could be seen from the carriage window and impressed by the golden farmland that extended outside the city.

I arrived at the territory while chatting with Silk, and spent a couple of days in the Malbik territory.

I was a little sad that I had to return to the royal capital, however, Silk was also heading to the debut party, so we had fun chatting as we traveled back.

About three days before we arrived, it had become noisy outside the carriage.

「A horde of orcs is coming at us from three sides! Protect the princess!」

I heard what sounded like an angry voice from outside.

「Telestia-sama, Silk-sama, please hide!」

Yes, that's what Marta, the maidservant riding in the carriage, said.

「E-E-eh? W-what happened?」

The maidservant's impatient voice startled me.

「It looks like a monster attack. The knights will take care of them, so don't worry and hide」

Those words reassured me a bit, but I was still so scared that I grabbed Silk's hand and we both trembled together.

You could hear the shouting and the tremor caused by the horde of monsters as they ran from the outside.

Then, I couldn't help but look.  I saw a herd of orcs coming towards us through the window.

Silk, who was next to me, stared scared as well.

「Don't let them approach the carriage in any way! Position yourselves around the carriage!」

「There are more than a dozen orcs coming from three sides. With such a number, we...」

「Fight to death! We are the knights of the Imperial Guard! What are we if we can't protect the princess!!!」

Angry voices were coming from outside the carriage.

「GyaaaaaAaaaA!!」

「Terrot! Are you fine!」

The captain swings his sword and goes towards the fallen knight while cutting the orcs.

「Guhaaa」

Then he heard another knight fall behind him.

When he looked around, several people had already been cut off, and some knights who had already fallen were struggling. Right now only three knights were protecting the carriage.

The herd of orcs, which was nearly fifty, had been reduced to about thirty, but the knights were already at their limit.

「This is it...? Kuuu...」

At that moment, a small child appeared from somewhere and stood holding a sword in one hand.

「Your help has come!!!」

Such words were spoken by the child. The boy had jumped into the middle of the orc herd.

「A child shouldn't come here! Run!」

Those words were the most he could say.

The boy smiled back at him and said a single word.

「Please look at me. Everything is fine now」

After that, he watched the kid in action.

He unleashed a series of spells in succession and brought down the orcs with a sword technique that made his movements impossible to see.

「Wh-What in the word is this kid...」

All he could do was watch.

「This is the end!」

By the time he realized, the orcs had already been exterminated.

That child was walking towards them. If one were to look closely, he was wearing nobleman's clothes.

However, anyone can tell just by looking at the magic and swordplay he has used, that he is not a normal child. They can't win against such an individual, however, they were entrusted with the protection of the princess and the second daughter of the duke, so they turned their swords at him.

「Stop there, stay away from the carriage!」

Once he cleaned the blood from the sword, he sheathed it and corrected his posture.

「I'm sorry I'm late. My name is Cain von Silford, and I am the third son of Garm von Silford Gracia」

At that moment, a knight riding a horse came from behind.

「I'm Margrave Garm von Silford Gracia's knight. I'm here to support you, huh? Why is Cain-sama here?」

The knight who came rushing in from behind looked on at his surroundings in amazement.

「Not only that, but he has defeated all the monsters」

Then, the child who said his name was Cain and that he was the son of Margrave Silford-sama, approaches.

「More importantly, please let me treat your wounded knights. I can use healing magic」

He noticed quickly and looked around.  Some knights were already out of breath, but a few were still breathing.

He then began to approach the fallen knights.

That child called Cain started chanting.

The fallen knights quickly recovered. Even the place where he was in pain was gone before he knew it. Magic such as Area Heal is advanced magic among healing magics. What in the world could be this child...

Just when such a thought crossed his mind, a carriage surrounded by knights arrived. He's sure that the carriage's crest is undoubtedly that of Margrave Silford.

All the knights who came to support us lined up.

And then Margrave's familiar figure gets out of the carriage.

「I'm Margrave Garm von Silford Gracia. I have noticed that the crest belongs to Duke Santana. Are you safe?」

With those words, he realized that they had survived.

The captain of the Imperial Guards calls the people inside the carriage.

「Princess, Miss Silk, are you two fine? Help has arrived and the monsters have been destroyed.  Please rest assured」

Silk and I, the two of us, were watching.

As the knights fell, a boy appeared out of nowhere and defeated the orcs with magic and a sword.

I put more strength in the hand that is intertwined with Silk's.

What a beautiful sword technique. Despite being a child of the same age as me, he moved so smoothly as he defeated the orcs. I couldn't take my eyes off that boy.

The maidservant opened the door for me and supported me as I walked outside of the carriage with Silk.

When they got out of the carriage, there was a man they knew from the castle. It was Margrave Garm-sama.

It seems that Garm-sama did not expect me to be in the Duke's carriage, so he suddenly fell to his knees and bowed.

The boy who had saved us also bowed to us.

「It is a pleasure above all to see that Her Highness Princess Telestia and Miss Silk are safe」

「Margrave Garm-sama, thank you for saving our life in such a dangerous situation」

The fact that Garm was here gave me peace of mind, however, I still couldn't stop my trembling because of the fear of what I had gone through.

However, being interested in the boy, I couldn't help but take a look at him.

「Cain, this is the third princess Telestia Tera Esfort-sama, and Duke Santana's daughter-sama」

Garm-sama introduced us to the boy. So he is called Cain-sama? I will never forget it.

The boy made a slightly surprised face, then stood up and introduced himself to us.

「My name is Cain von Silford, Margrave von Silford Gracia's third son, who is standing next to me. I'm happy to hear that Her Highness Princess Telestia and Miss Silk are safe. I apologize for the short notice, but may I cast a spell?」

Huh? Magic? I saw it a while ago, but still, I couldn't stop shaking a little.

As soon as Cain-sama cast his magic, me, Silk, and even the maidservant was enveloped by the light.

Once the light was gone, the fear and tremor I had felt before disappeared and I felt calm.

「I think this should have calmed you down」

The smile that Cain-sama displayed when he said this made me unable to take my eyes off of him. I couldn't understand anything, except that my cheeks had turned red.

「Cain-sama, I'm Telestia Tera Esfort. Thank you for saving me from a dangerous situation. I was very scared. I thought this was going to be my final moment」

Unintentionally, I grabbed Cain-sama's hand. This may be the first time I have ever held someone's hand other than my parents or siblings.

「Ah, that's unfair! Cain-sama, let me thank you as well.  I was watching from the carriage window. I saw how you shot magic with the force of a gale, and your swordplay was also incredible」

Silk also came out of the carriage. Ah, the hand I was holding was taken by Silk.

「I thought it was going to be our end as I watched together with Silk the knights fall. Cain-sama is truly strong, having defeated 30 orcs by yourself. I was captivated by your magic and swordplay」

Afterward, I made an effort not to show a smile knowing that Cain-sama would go with us to the royal capital, however, I could not help but smile.

The knights who protected us from the monsters told us to go back to the carriage while they disposed of the monster's remains.

「Cain-sama...」

Suddenly, Cain-sama's face came to my mind, and Silk, having heard me, reacted to my words.

「Telestia, you're sure obsessed with Cain-sama~」

This time even I realized that my face had turned red once Silk said such words.

After a few moments, the knight informed me that we were departing.

I couldn't help but call him from the carriage, hoping to talk a little more with Cain-sama.

「Can I talk with you for a second? We are not comfortable with just the two of us in the carriage, so I would like Cain-sama to join us inside, would that be okay?」

Garm-sama was confused as expected, but somehow he was able to answer.

「I understand. Cain, get in the carriage over there」

「...I understand」

First, Cain-sama was led into the middle of the back seat, then I sat next to him.

Then I saw that even Silk went to sit on the other side of Cain-sama!

These are seats in which two adults can sit side by side, so it is not small even if three children sit together.

Cain-sama was making a somewhat frustrated look.

I thought that such a face was also wonderful.

「Should I sit in the front seat? After all, it's a bit tight with three people」

Cain-sama made such a suggestion, but there was no way I would approve it after I managed to sit next to him.

Then, unintentionally, I entangled my arm with Cain-sama's.

I might be a little too aggressive...

「Teles, not fair. Me too!」

Silk, too, entangled her arm with Cain-sama's other arm.

On our way, we spent the night in a city, I was going to share a double room with Silk, however, I was able to force Cain-sama to share the room with us. As expected, Cain-sama had to leave when we changed our clothes, but when I saw Cain-sama sleeping in the bed next to ours, I couldn't help but smile.

Today we were going to arrive at the royal capital, and since I had so much fun talking to Cain-sama, I accidentally asked him to call me 「Teles」. After all, even Silk calls me that, right?

The fun time flew by and we arrived at the royal capital. Cain-sama had to go straight to where the Imperial Guards were, so we had to say goodbye there.

When I entered the royal castle with Silk, we were both ushered into the reception room where my father was having a meeting.

I have to apologize to my father for worrying him.

「Father, I must apologize for worrying you」

「It's okay-ja. Teles, that both are safe is more important」

After that, we started talking about what had happened. I couldn't help but get excited when talking about Cain-sama that I may have exaggerated a little. Still, from my point of view, his appearance looked more like a prince than anyone else.

My father and Duke Eric were both sighing.

「Then-ja, according to the report, I have been informed that both Teles and Silk, were clinging to Cain, the one who saved you both」

Even I can see that with just those few words of a father I blushed. When I glanced at my side, Silk was also bright red.

「Looking at your expressions, I can see that you are both not as dissatisfied as I thought you would be-janou」

Prime Minister Magna looks at us and says such a thing.

「Assuming Cain took one of you, which one of you would want to be his fiancée?」

Hearing such words from my father was a shock to me.

Being engaged to my prince, Cain-sama, such a thing...

I raised my hand and answered immediately.

My voice met Silk's.

Silk and I both blushed even more when we saw each other's faces.

「That's how much of a boy is the boy named Cain, huh?」

「Eric, is that okay with you?」

Father and Duke Eric-sama were both nodding at each other.

After that, the three of them, including Prime Minister Magna-sama, looked somewhat suspicious, but my heart was filled with the fact that Cain-sama and I were going to be able to marry in the future.
